[RLUG] remote login

I started to get into this question a few weeks ago and had to stop to earn some money.   Yeah yeah - let's not get into that.

I can use my home machine running Billyware to login to my office Linux box no problem.

But I also need to run X Windows over an ssh session so I can get into some special tools on my office machine.

I have installed Cygwin/x on my home machine but have not found a good 
  "take me by the hand and tell me exactly what to do step by step" guide anywhere, just all kinds of hints that I should be able to do what I need with Putty & Cygwin/x.

Does anyone know of one or can send me one?

The office machine is running Ubuntu and the home is running XP.  As I said I can already login at the command line but cannot run X anything over the Putty/ssh connection and yes I checked X11 forwarding.
