I have the universal CD, and printed the handbook out for reference. It seems there are additional downloads you have to make to get it to work. I think I will stay wired instead. 

The wireless adapter is a broadcom 802.11g adapter w/bluetooth. HP does not idetify the maker. 

I did finally make it through the whole Gentoo install process the hardway (CAT5 connection). I am confused however as I compiled in pcmcia support and wireless support in the kernel, but don't have the iwconfig program. Does anyone know where this comes from?
