[RLUG] Gentoo

I am now installing Gentoo on my laptop. I downloaded the universal CD , but cannot seem to get it to install without an internet connection. In an attempt to satisfy the network connection I tried enabling the wireless connection without success. I even tried running Knoppix to get wireless running, also with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions to either problem?
